Effective January 1, 2019, short-term rental operators, platforms (Airbnb®, VBRO®), and some bed and breakfasts, in the City of Seattle must have a short-term regulatory license. A short-term rental is one where a home or part of a home is rented, for a fee, for fewer than 30 consecutive nights. Such rentals are also subject to new requirements in Seattle’s Land Use Code. The newly required license is in addition to a Seattle business license tax certificate and costs $75 per unit. It can be obtained from the Department of Finance and Administrative Services.
