Are you a Go-Giver? Get and Give The 5 Laws of Entrepreneurial Success

by | November 16, 2023

‘Tis the season for pumpkin spice everything, reflection, gratitude, and a touch of entrepreneurial wisdom.

It becomes ever more crucial for us, as entrepreneurs, to pause and extend our appreciation for the essential foundations that have shaped our collective journeys – in both business and life.

“The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann is one of those life changing resources for any business journey.

This literary gem is not just a book; it’s a guiding force propelling any business journey toward transformative success. At its core, “The Go-Giver” unfolds a blueprint, a set of guiding principles encapsulated in “The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success.”

These laws, when understood and applied, can become the North Star for entrepreneurs navigating the complex terrain of business endeavors. These ideas have helped shape the way Equinox operates and helps us to stay focused on what’s important to our clients.

So, let’s delve into the wisdom found in these laws, unraveling the secrets that promise to elevate not just our businesses but our lives as well.

Law #1: The Law of Value

Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

It’s easy to think of success as how much you’re making. But it’s important to remember success is measured not just by the revenue you generate but by the value you consistently contribute. This foundational principle is something that has been at the core of Equinox and made all the difference. In the legal landscape, where strategy and compliance are often keeping up with what you don’t know, we’ve found ourselves thriving by not extending beyond just delivering our services but by educating and empowering our clients. There’s so much value in helping them uncover what they don’t know. By doing so, we provide confidence, ensuring our clients are always ahead of the game.

Law #2: The Law of Compensation

Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

Your business will grow when you focus more on the help you give others, and how well you do it. Equinox’s growth is a testament to this law. What makes it work is that it’s not about us, it’s about our clients. Equinox is an experiment, something that hasn’t been done before in the legal industry. We serve our clients a relationship with legal that provides freedom and confidence, peace of mind and protection, solutions and strategies to leverage legal in a way they never have experienced before. We’re incredibly proud of our team’s service to our clients and their loyalty and trust – and it’s been proof that there is currency more valuable than money!

Law #3: The Law of Influence

Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.

The transformative impact of this principle has been seen firsthand within the Equinox community. The leadership team has dedicated itself to grasping the needs of our team, fostering a culture that prioritizes others, values collaboration over competition, and emphasizes giving more than taking. Although it’s been a journey to reach this point, our team understands that we genuinely care about their aspirations, aim to nurture their skills and talents, acknowledge their contributions, and celebrate their achievements. As a result, our team thrives as a collaborative, motivated, and loyal force—the true heartbeat of our business.

Law #4: The Law of Authenticity

The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

To be honest, fully embracing this principle sometimes feels like just overcommitting yourself! Whether it’s taking on leadership roles in boards, professional organizations, or nurturing personal connections, it demands your time. But the power of engaging authentically comes back to you in spades. Through being a part of those connections and groups, you can learn to be yourself, to share struggles and successes with peers, to ask for help and offer help, to be honest and humble, to be open and curious. Relationships become stronger when you can be yourself, can show up as you are, and can connect with others on a deeper level. When you embrace this Law, you learn that authenticity is the key to trust, respect, and rapport.

Law #5: The Law of Receptivity

The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

I think most of us can relate to this feeling – thinking that you have to do everything yourself, that I had to be independent and self-reliant, that I had to prove myself and earn my place. But years of trial and application of the other laws, can really help you to see that you’re missing out on the opportunities that come from receiving. By sharing, you give others the gift of receiving.  Receiving sometimes gets a bad rep as being selfish, but in reality it’s generous. Receiving builds connection and community. Receiving allows us to give more and better.

Feeling the holiday spirit of gratitude and improvement? We encourage you to grab a copy of “The Go-Giver” and apply these laws in your life.

Remember, the more you give, the more you receive.   Invest in your growth, connect with your community, and pave the way for success in both business and life.

“The wealthiest people in the world are those who have a greater passion and dedication for what they are giving- their product or service- than what they are getting in return.” –  “The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann
