Jay Long is a northwest transplant and business attorney with Equinox Business Law Group. He has diverse experience advising cities, businesses, non-profits and other entities as well as litigation experience to help clients achieve their goals and avoid potential risks. Jay began his legal career as an environmental attorney in Austin, Texas. He subsequently moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he served as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Nashville and as an Associate at a private law firm where he advised clients on various environmental, claims investigation, risk management, corporate, non-profit, contracts, and other issues. He moved to Seattle in 2012 to be closer to family and to the great outdoors.
Jay has served as City Attorney for the cities of DuPont, Orting and Hunts Point, Washington. In that capacity he advised his clients on a variety of issues, litigated and defended cases on their behalf and served as part of the management team for each of those cities. Jay’s primary area of focus is compliance with local city and county laws, labor and employment, environmental and land use, contracts, construction, non-profit, administrative law, and litigation.
Jay holds a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law with a Certificate in Environmental law and a B.A. in English Literature from Rhodes College. He is licensed in Washington and is on Inactive Status in Texas and Tennessee. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association – Labor and Employment and Environmental Law sections and the Texas Bar Association.
When Jay isn’t in the office, he can be found running, swimming, snowshoeing in the Cascades, kayaking at the Kitsap Peninsula, and participating in Boy Scout activities with Bellevue Troop 626.
